As reported in the Spring 2025 issue of Burien Magazine, the City of Burien Economic Development Division has partnered with The Imagine Institute to open nine new family home childcare centers in Burien by December 2026 as part of a Childcare Business Development initiative launched earlier this year.
The Burien City Council approved $250,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to be invested into providing mentorship, guidance with licensing requirements, marketing, and seed money for Burien residents interested in an entrepreneurial pathway to provide much-needed childcare services to working families in our city and surrounding areas.
On August 28, 2025, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held at two new centers, Gifted Minds and Tiny Tots, both in the Boulevard Park neighborhood. Since then, a third new childcare provider has also obtained their permit and will soon open. Expect to see more community celebrations and announcements as more childcare centers open!
