Spring 2024 Recycling Event Diverts Tons of Material from Landfills

Community recycling day empowers Burien community members to make a difference.

Thanks to your participation, the City of Burien in partnership with the City of Normandy Park and Olympic Environmental Resources were able to process an incredible amount of material and keep it out of landfills.

Residents arrived in nearly 1,000 vehicles with material to recycle at our Spring 2024 Recycling Event and Bin Sale on May 4, 2024 at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Center in Burien.

Large yellow bin full of batteries to be recycled.
Batteries collected at the recycling event.

Together, we collected:

  • 18,553 pounds of scrap metal and appliances
  • 22,030 pounds of electronic equipment, including televisions and computer monitors
  • 11,880 pounds of paper
  • 45 cubic yards of Styrofoam
  • and more!
