When the challenges we face start to feel a little overwhelming, it’s a good idea to look for the helpers – “you will always find people who are helping,” as beloved television icon Mister Rogers used to say.
This issue looks for, and finds, some of Burien’s helpers. In these pages, you’ll meet our dedicated Human Services team whose collaborative approach to addressing community needs creates a much larger impact than should be possible with the resources they have available. In the heart of downtown Burien you’ll meet Deputy Adriana Mazur, who brings a multilingual, multicultural lens to strengthening community safety. At our Welcoming Burien event, City staff, resource providers, and Community Connectors came together to celebrate our immigrant and refugee neighbors.
Another way we care for and uplift each other is by creating spaces for connection, learning, and doing. The City of Burien offers a wide array of upcoming events and recreational opportunities to choose from. Maybe we’ll see you on November 7 at our annual Día de los Muertos event at Burien Community Center?
As for your City communications team, we’re going to keep on spreading joy and celebrating connection – first by launching this issue, and now we’re off to win the staff Halloween costume contest. Please keep your fingers crossed for us!
