Citizen of the Year 2021

Every year, the Burien City Council honors community members who make outstanding contributions to our community by presenting them with the Citizen of the Year award. Recipients are nominated by Burien residents.

The Burien City Council selected Roxana Pardo Garcia and Don and Charlotte Berg as this year’s recipients of the award. Thirteen people were nominated.

Roxana Garcia Pardo

Alimentando al Pueblo was founded in May 2020 as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The nonprofit organization started as a grassroots effort to distribute culturally appropriate food for the Latinx community in Highline. Read how Pardo Garcia joined with local community leaders to create a space for community, food, and celebration.

Don and Charlotte Berg

Don and Charlotte Berg are at Transform Burien most days. You can find them in the kitchen, sorting donated clothes, operating the laundry facilities—or you can find them simply talking to the many people who walk through their doors every day. Read how Don and Charlotte describe their passion for helping people experiencing homelessness.
