Since 2022, the Burien community has participated in an initiative called “Shape Your City” to help chart the course for Burien’s next 20 years. Shape Your City is a collaborative effort between the City of Burien and the community to update the City’s Comprehensive Plan; Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Plan; Transportation Master Plan; and Economic Development Action Plan.
In the first two phases of Shape Your City, we asked you to share your ideas, stories, and strategies through interactive online tools and in-person open houses. In the third phase, we asked for feedback on the draft plans and held a successful open house in December 2023 where more than 75 community members toured interactive stations, talked with City staff, and shared their thoughts.
With that feedback, draft plans were reviewed and revised by the City’s boards and commissions, and as we entered the fourth and final phase, draft plans get presented to the Burien City Council for review and adoption.
We encourage everyone to check out the adopted plans to see what made it in and track the status of the plans yet to be adopted. Your feedback is still valuable! You can attend meetings, provide public comment, or send in your thoughts via email.
